Employer Obligations When Hiring Foreign Workers in North Macedonia
A checklist: what to verify before letting someone start work, what to keep on file, and what needs to be reported to the authorities.

Table of contents
Before letting the worker start
- Checking a valid document that entitles the person to stay in North Macedonia
- Keeping a copy of that document on file for the entire employment period
- A written contract, translated into a language the worker understands
- Registering the worker for social insurance within the statutory deadlines
During employment
A change of position, working time or salary may require an amendment to the work permit. Inspections most often check exactly this: whether the actual working conditions match what is stated in the documents.
In practice
We keep a deadline calendar for our clients: expiring documents, extensions and registrations. This way nothing falls through the cracks in the middle of the season.
